Welcome to my blog!

Hello! I am Janina Webb, and hopefully there will be some familiar *faces* in class this semester. I have been going to school part time for years now, and hope to finish my associates degree in Graphic Design in a year and a half. I took HTML last semester, and had a lot of fun. I had no idea what to expect from web design, but I have found it fascinating and am looking forward to learning more. I think a lot of people who use the web everyday don't realize just how much work goes into designing a web site. I think this has been a wonderful way of getting to know everyone, and seeing how they grow as class goes on.

I have been married for nearly 14 years now. My hubby runs his own welding business to keep him busy (and dirty, I might add). I have two children, ages 13 and 11. They are both boys, so my house is usually very noisy and overrun with sporting equipment. This year they are in less sports, due to an accident. Last May my oldest son broke his elbow in 8 places, so he is unable to participate in most sports at the moment.

I am a pricing associate for Sears, which means I go through all of the clothes; marking the clearance and setting up merchandise. It is not a bad job, but not something I see myslef doing for a long time. I decided not to go back to Jackpot for substituting this semester because of the price of gas, and also because I am taking classes on campus this semester, so I would only have a couple days a week down there, anyway.

I grew up in South Dakota, and moved to Twin Falls the first time about 13 years ago. We stayed for a year or so, and then my husband took a job in the Bend, Oregon area. About 11 years ago we moved to Buhl. I didn't want to live here when I first saw it, I wanted to live in Twin where it is bigger and busier. But it didn't take long for Buhl to feel like home, and I am really glad we are here.

I recently decided that I want to ride in a century ride next year, which is a hundred mile bicycle race. It is the Mount Rushmore century ride, not far from where I grew up. I have a lot of training to do. Riding my bike in the Black Hills was easy for me when I lived there, but after 14 years of not riding I have found it is not so easy to get back in the saddle. But I am determined that I am going to do this, and am trying to recruit all of my family to join me. My sister and husband have agreed, and I am hoping my dad will join us as well. I also need a good bike before then, and can't decide if I want to get a road bike or a mountain bike. I have always had a mountain bike (when I had a bike, that is), and enjoying being able to ride trails that I couldn't ride if I got a road bike.

This summer has been very quiet for us, we are all just working and helping my son with his physical therapy. I am glad to get back to doing schoolwork. I am one of those weirdos that enjoys learning, so I don't mind that this is a field where I will be learning continuously. My dad took a computer class when I was little, and he always likes telling the story that the teacher was talking about the "newest thing out in computers is the 5 1/4 disk" and my dad raised his hand and said "no it isn't, they have 3 1/2 inch disks now" as he pulled one out of his pocket. I feel like I am behind on technology, even though I grew up with the computer. I have always used one, but only in recent years been interested in how they work, how to fix them, and how to design web pages. I enjoy working with computers a lot, and I think this is an awesome field to be going into.

Hi Janina.

You have much more energy than I do. I decided one day to ride a bike to work. Bad mistake and I only live 3/4 a mile from where I work. I had s friend take me and the bike home after work. lol Good luck in your training.

My first computer had a place for a floppy disk. Now you can't even find one with a floppy. I like the cd and dvd's much better. Now with the jump drives you can really keep your system from getting to full.

Good luck with all you are doing and hope to see you around the blog and discussion board this semester.

Thanks for the comment!

I am trying to get my energy back up. I am not near as active as I used to be, and decided I was setting a bad example for my kids.

A few years ago I ordered a computer for my father-in-law, and he insisted he needed a floppy drive. So I special ordered him a floppy drive. I know he has never once used it. He is so funny.

Good luck to you as well!
